Ellinor Couchman - Journalist and Archivist

From a young age, I've always had a fascination with technology and obsolescence. Despite being born on this side of the millenium, I spent most of my youth collecting analog technology to replace the garish modern displays rapidly replacing the interior landscape of America. I even collected and archived hundreds of outdated video games since I was nine years old. In that time, I've had the opportunity to learn and appreciate the vast scope of technological evolution. Discovering more about the history and machinations of media has already dominated most of my life's work, and I don't see myself as likely to change in the near future.

Conversely, I also love the outdoors! I've learned to love cinematography and photography as a result. Being able to capture the essence of a scene has always been an important part of my hobbies. As the descendant of a family farm in Newton, KS, appreciating the rare delicacy of life has always been inherent to me. I've always enjoyed distilling such a life authentically. I grew up in Kansas--the exact center of America--peering over the last latitudinal grid of major metropolitan areas from Brownsville, TX to Fargo, ND. Everything to my immediate West has been a wonderland of untapped wilderness, and everything to my East has been an intricate web of technological incorporation. In my opinion, there's no better way to appreciate one than by softening your heart for the other.

I'm currently an undergraduate student looking to make a career out of my diametrically synchronized hobbies. I work as a digital archives assistant at the Forsyth Library, and were it up to me, I would spend my career deepening my contributions to academic library spaces. I mostly excel in the corporate history of technology from a geographical determinism lens. My work ranges greatly, but it generally exists within the realm of research and analysis. I particularly specialize in the history of video games as it pertains to the technological front of globalization. To see a wider variety of my work, please check my experience page.
